Here's what some people had to say about Lightspeed and Instant Lightspeed. If you have a comment, please e-mail me at evilschemer(a)comcast.net.

Lightspeed was a finalist in the 2002 Indie RPG Awards. "Fast, action oriented play. Doesn't lose sight of it's goal: cinematic SF. The game play never gets bogged down in too many details. Loads of fun."

Reviews at RPG.net

"Astro Police Rangers! Drop the blaster, scumbag, and assume the position!".

"Think of it as Star Trek's Federation vs. Star Wars' Empire, with lots of juicy bits thrown in."

"I hope you saved room for dessert, because Lightspeed is SWEET."

Lightspeed!
Lightspeed- Opinions?

Just downloaded both Lightspeed and the Planets book and I like them both. Lightspeed is extremely complete and well written.

The only game that I've seen Fuzion handle well is Lightspeed, by Christian Conkle. Other than that, stick to straight interlock and use the fuzion books for source material. It's simpler, and handles things just as well.

Ran Lightspeed lastnight for my group. (very slightly modified.) The group liked it better than Star Wars or Traveler d20.

...

I have been running a sci fi game based on it using the Lightspeed rules and it worked out quite well. My group has made a couple of small mods to the system (using d20 instead of 3d6 for task resolution) and it has been very well received.

Ohh CC.....
Lightspeed is A material man.....good stuff...

Lightspeed is a great SFRPG. Capsule review: 5/5, run, don't walk, run to your nearest rpgnow.com and get a copy. Tell 'em I sent you.

I'm going to give you my humble opinion. If you want a game open enough for you to customize to your heart's content, get LIGHTSPEED. It provides you with everything you need for a cool campaign.

I have been looking over your "Instant Lightspeed" game and am really impressed. It seems like it would be a blast to play. I am especially impressed with the starfighter combat rules. These rules are some of the best "dogfighting" rules I've seen in awhile.

I like the flavor of the setting. ...I think I'll be sitting down to play this some time in the near future.

I like the feel of it. It might not intend to be, but it feels like one of those charming, if under-budgeted sci-fi shows you used to be able to watch on the weekends... or a sci-fi novel from twenty some odd years ago (without quite resorting to the terms "then we switched from the red ray to the blue ray to try to pierce their megnetic shields!"). I'm one of those guys who doesn't require absolutely everything spelled out for me (the common "Confederate Round" is 2 ozs of geltonium alloy, measuring 15mm across and blah blah blah). Lightspeed gives just enough to tickle the imagination and run with it.

Fuzion (interlock) isn't a bad system, really. It has a kind of transparent feel to it which I've always liked.

I've found your Lightspeed a great help while developing my latest campaign.

I recommend anybody looking for a rules light space opera game to check them out.

Very cool.

Hey Christian,
I've been taking a long look at Instant Lightspeed and I really like what I see. The setting material suits my sci-fi gaming style nicely and the layout and art are both fantastic. Usually when I purchase a .pdf I print it out at work on the black and white laser printer. But I think I'm going to have to spring for the full color job at Kinko's for this one. Good work!

I've been looking for a space opera RPG. I took a look at Instant Lightspeed and it will definitely fit the bill.

Check out Christian Conkle's LIGHTSPEED- it's worth a read for the inside jokes alone, but makes for great sci-fi gaming.

Just downloaded Instant Lightspeed and I love it!

With Lightspeed, I can discribe the setting basics to a well versed gamer in 15 minutes, tops, and they will get it. The system will take another 10-15 minutes. Then we build characters and game.

I also like how Lightspeed is set up for good gaming -- not 'fiction' that you have to wedge gaming into. AstroPol Rangers are all equal ranks = no chain of command problems among PCs. Good empire, evil empire, frontier (with pirates), petty 'factions in civil war' empire = easy to get, all dramatic situations covered.

Most importantly, the background is just a framework -- I've got room to breathe running this! I can make Lightspeed my own, without worrying about negating the usefulness of future supplements.

I can't wait for the full version of Lightspeed to come out.

(Should also note -- great 'newbie' game. Instant FUZION is very newbie-friendly, and the cliche ridden background is easy for a beginner to grasp.)

Thanks loads for raising the bar, Christian. Jeez, a designer can't get a break...

Just surfed into Lightspeed from The Forge had a cursory look and was very impressed. It's fab! I liked the pictures you interspersed particularly.

Keep up the good work!

I love Lightspeed. I’ve run two one-off psi ranger games with great success. The streamlined Fuzion system is choice, and all the inside jokes, thinly veiled references, and intermingled source material kept my players grinning for hours.

What’s the deal with the Total Fuzion version of Lightspeed? I’d love to see Lightspeed expanded, and just to let you know, if you do plan on selling the game, I’ll be buying it.

Now all you need is a time travel expansions for the game… TARDIS, time tunnel, and Temporal Rangers to keep causality in line.

I've aimed some of my pals at Lightspeed, and everyone I tell about it gets a major kick. So...when will the hyper-version be finished up, hmmmm?

Very cool!

I want to tell you that you work is impressive, and very fabulous! I play a little Instant Lightspeed with my son : what a pleasure. Easy, light, fast.

"Jean-Marc"

WOW, what a great setting! I've been thinking about creating my own sci-fi setting using fuzion but now I won't need to. You could play in almost every sci-fi setting. It's great! Now i won't need to create my own.

That looks great, Christian!

I read Lightspeed, and I loved it. I normally find classic space opera a stultifying genre, but you showed that it has a lot of life left. When will the next supplement come out?

Michael Beck

I saw the review of Lightspeed on rpg.net and checked it out. You did a great job.

Very few games live up to the hype given them, but the attention to detail you have paid is astounding. And I don't use the word 'astounding' for _just anything_.

I have bookmarked your page to check back in the future...but I have also saved everything you have so far as a reference.

Anyway, great stuff! Keep it coming.

"Delos"

You're doing great job with Lightspeed. I'm a veteran of rpgs and I've read a lot of them. Congratulations!!!! I know that you will publish this rpg in the future and I will be happy to buy it (if it will be bigger of course). I will often look at your page for supplements, adventures, and general ideas how Lightspeed works.

"Nikolas"

Finally, i checked out the Lightspeed freebie thing. It's hjard to tell if the game will hold my interest in any way, buit there's nothing glaringly bad about it that i've seen so far.
